BECAUSE THE OCEANS

Because the Oceans is a narrated multimedia program of new works and recognizable classics that celebrates the ocean and urges the listener to support global initiatives to save our shared precious resource. The project was conceived via a federal grant from the U.S. Consulate in Marseille, France, with the goal of using the power of music as a tool for environmental advocacy and education. The grant included engagement with economically disadvantaged schools in the region and concerts hosted by the Camargo Foundation and Prince Albert II of Monaco. The title piece is a composition by Alejandro Rutty, alongside a video by Brad Lambert, that sets expert climate data from governmental panels to music, allowing the listener to process the information through a humanistic lens. Following the successful tour in France and Monaco, Because the Oceans was performed at the Washington National Gallery of Art on Earth Day, 2023.
